Now back to the Flight Review: OH MY GAWD!!!! From
the moment this plane first left the ground, it felt
like it was on rails! Tight doesn't even begin to
describe it's feel. This plane goes EXACTLY where
you tell it to, no more no less! The CG, which I'll
get back to, was dead on! Point rolls are so solid
it feels like cheating. My first, second & third
1 1/2 snap to inverteds were 10's as graded by a couple
IMAC guys who were there getting in a few last practice
flights before a contest this weekend. And guys, I
ain't that good!! Straight and level flight, medium
speed, chop the throttle, hit the sticks, the plane
pirouettes around 1 1/2 times, center the sticks,
the plane comes to what appears to be an almost complete
stop in the air perfectly at inverted, add throttle
and proceed to accelerate thu the manuever, perfectly
stable!
I found almost no pitch or roll coupling to rudder
input. You could easily fly it "as is" without
mixing it out. The speed is constant and just right.
And talk about presence. This plane just flat looks
awesome in the air!! You'll get an extra point or
two just cause it looks so damn good!
I didn't try any 3D with it today, I only had time
for a few flights, but with the control authority
I experienced today, I gotta believe that to will
be awesome!
No kidding guys, put your name on the list to get
one of these! I've got 2 and I'm glad I got them early,
Jon's going to have a hard time keeping these in stock,
once the word gets out!
Now back to the CG. A little something to be aware
of for those planning to use a standard 150. My plane
balanced right on the wing tube, which is about 3"
BEHIND the CG shown on the plans! I almost had a heart
attack! My 200 is 4 1/2 lbs heavier than the 150,
& I've got everthing installed at, or ahead of
the wing tube. I couldn't believe it could be that
tail heavy. I emailed Jon with a "Houston, we
have a problem" call. He responded that the wing
tube is right at 32% MAC and should be OK. As I said
earlier, it flys perfectly at this point!
I'm having a bit of a problem keeping one of the pipes
on the header, but I'm planning to put some serious
airtime on this bird the next 3 days. I'll keep you
informed.
David
If not for the project I've got on my table now,
I'd be building the second YAK immediately!
